Composer, songwriter ("Guess Who I Saw Today"), pianist and author, educated at Juilliard. He served in the US Army during World War II and wrote camp shows, later performing in New York nightclubs and writing special material for Tallulah Bankhead, Dorothy Loudon, Lena Horne, Hermione Gingold and Chris Connor. His stage scores include "Triple Galop" (Paris), and "The Dancing Heiress", and he wrote songs for Broadway revues including "New Faces" (1952, 1956) and off-Broadway shows including "Chic" and "Four Below". Joining ASCAP in 1955, his chief musical collaborators included Elisse Boyd and Will Holt. His popular-song compositions also include "April in Fairbanks", "Hurry", "Thursday's Child", "I'd Rather Cha-Cha than Eat", "Come by Sunday" and "The Pergola".
