Mylène Farmer was born on September 12, 1961 in Montréal, Québec, Canada as Marie-Hélène Jeanne Gauthier. She moved to Paris in her early twenties, to pursue a career in singing. Her 1984 breakout song was "Maman a tort' . After a drastic makeover to closely resemble her idol, Jeanne Mas, the Canadian fashioned her look, her style and her singing after Mas, and eventually took over Jeanne's career, when the latter went in semi-retirement. She is known for her work on Arthur and the Invisibles (2006), A Good Year (2006) and Mylène Farmer: Libertine (1986).
