Lester Ferguson was born in Fountain Springs, Pennsylvania as Lester James Ferguson. He moved with his family to Philadelphia where he grew up, but after World War II he stayed in England and became a celebrity as an opera singer. Ferguson arrived in Britain from the United States with the U.S. Army in 1943. As a Army captain, he was named to the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Britain's King George VI in 1945 for his military service during World War II. Ferguson also found work as an actor, known for The Fatal Night (1948), BBC Sunday-Night Theatre (1950), and Val Parnell's Startime (1956). He developed cancer in 1965, and had not performed since 1984 when died in England at St. George's Hospital, London on 27 December 1995 at age 78.
