Los Angeles filmmaker/musician/artist Hans Fjellestad has presented his work in theaters, museums, festivals and clubs throughout the world (U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Haiti, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil) and on major television networks including Showtime, Netflix, ABC, MTV, Adult Swim, Arte, PBS and BBC. Hans helmed "Sunset Strip," which premiered at SXSW 2012. The Hollywood Reporter describes it as "entertaining almost to a fault, this color-packed doc boasts a lifetime's worth of glamour and sleaze" with Mickey Rourke, Johnny Depp, Ozzy Osbourne, Keanu Reeves, Sofia Coppola, Hugh Hefner, Sharon Stone, Courtney Love, among others. Hans premiered his previous film about Depression-era life and art "When The World Breaks" at the 2010 Doc Edge Festival in New Zealand. He was also writer/producer for the 2009 music documentary "The Heart Is A Drum Machine" with Juliette Lewis, Elijah Wood, John Frusciante and Jason Schwartzman. Hans is also known for his award-winning documentary "Moog," about electronic music pioneer Robert Moog, released theatrically in 2004. His directorial debut found the filmmaker in Tijuana, Mexico for "Frontier Life," exploring electronic music in the borderlands and the birth of the Nortec Collective. As musician, Hans tours and records extensively as a solo artist and in collaboration with numerous players on the experimental music scene in over a dozen countries. He composes original music for theater, dance, film and television. He has taught and lectured at numerous academic institutions including Columbia University, Amherst College, San Francisco Art Institute, McGill University in Montreal, Mexico's Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos, Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana in Mexico City, Palomar College, Centro Cultural Tijuana, University of California San Diego, Center for Research in Computing & the Arts in La Jolla and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. He is a lecturer at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music since 2015. Hans has appeared on ABC News 20/20, NPR "Day to Day," WBAI New York, KUSF San Francisco, KXLU Los Angeles, BBC Radio 4 "Front Row," Canal 22 Mexico, MTV Latin America, ARTE "Kultur," Danmarks Radio "Klassisk," Prague Radio 1, and been featured in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Keyboard Magazine, La Prensa, Japan Times, The Wire, Norway's Verdens Gang, International Herald Tribune and the Guardian UK. Hans was curator and producer for the international art initiative, inSite_05, and was artist-in-residence at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood 2008-2011, curating and hosting the monthly live music series ResBox. He brings his experience in the arts and education to his ongoing humanitarian projects in Afghanistan and Haiti.
