Philipp Fabian Kölmel was born in Rastatt a small town in Germany in 1973 but grew up in Berlin. He began improvising in his childhood, playing the piano for hours on end. He took part in the composition competition "Jugend komponiert" at an early age and won several awards. He also played in big bands, orchestras and jazz ensembles, in part with his own works. Later he studied sound engineering, piano, voice, double bass and conducting at the Universität der Künste Berlin (Berlin University of the Arts) and composition for film and media with Enjott Schneider at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München (University of Music and Performing Arts Munich). He began working as a freelance composer for feature and TV films, commercials, events and theater projects in 1996. Important to him is the contact with the public as pianist and songwriter for the theater and cabaret stage. Philipp Fabian Kölmel obtained many composition commissions for international events. Thus, for example, he created for the 150th anniversary of Siemens Russia a live surround concert for five grand pianos; for Giesecke & Devrient a symphony for full orchestra and rock band, for the Hamburg-Mannheimer insurance company a pop symphony with elements from Beethoven's "Ode to Joy". He made his feature film debut with the orchestral film score for Cascadeur (1998). One of his latest scoring assignments Ruby Red (2013), Sapphire Blue (2014) and Emerald Green (2016) is causing more interest amongst collectors and critics alike, the music is released on Sony Classical. Philipp Fabian Kölmel is a member of the Deutsche Filmakademie e.V. (The German Film Academy), the Deutscher Komponistenverband e.V (German Composers Association), founding member and leadership committee member of the Deutsche Filmkomponistenunion (German Film Music Society).
