Nikolai Ivanovich Lebedev was a Russian film director specializing in movies for children, such as Schastlivogo plavaniya (1949) and V moey smerti proshu vinit Klavu K. (1980). He was born Nikolai Ivanovich Lebedev on 9 August 1897, in Gus-Khrustalny, Vladimir province, Russian Empire. Young Lebedev grew up in Vladimir province east of Moscow. After the Russian revolution of 1917, he moved to St. Petersburg (then called Petrograd). In 1923 he made his acting debut in Petrograd Film Studio (predesessor of Lenfilm Studios). In 1925 he graduated from Leningrad Institute of Cinema Art and worked as an assistant director for over a decade. From the beginning of his career Lebedev became specialized in children's film. He received awards at the 1959 and 1980 Soviet Film Festivals in the category of films for children. Nikolai Lebedev died in Russia, in October of 1989 (natural causes).
