Biography

“I've always been very competitive, and part of that is pushing your limits, taking risks and being able to live with the loss that comes with that risk.” Scarlett Johansson is an American actress and producer who showed an interest in acting from an early age: at 9 she made her film debut in North (1994). Johansson enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and later attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan to perfect her craft. She attracted attention for her performance in The Horse Whisperer (1998) and the black comedy Ghost World (2001) and then transitioned to more adult roles. In 2003, she made Lost in Translation, alongside Bill Murray, and Girl with a Pearl Earring, films that established her as one of the most versatile actresses of her generation and earned her two Golden Globe nominations. She has collaborated with director Woody Allen in Match Point (2005), Scoop (2006) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). She lent her voice to Samantha in the film Her (2013), and while she does not appear physically, her emotional performance was crucial to the success of the character, receiving praise for her ability to convey depth and emotional connection. She also played Natasha Romanoff, known as Black Widow, in the Marvel Universe, since Iron Man 2 (2010). Her role was highlighted in The Avengers films (2012 and 2019) and led to her having her own film, Black Widow (2021). In 2019, Johansson received two Oscar nominations for her work in A Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. Her ability to reinvent herself ensures that, despite her extensive career, she remains a relevant and current figure in the industry.

Character Beats Talent: The Future of Tom Cruise

There’s so much that has been and can be said about the career of Tom Cruise, from his meteoric rise as the world’s most bankable movie star, to the rather sudden plummeting in popularity following (checks notes) something about a couch jumping? His popularity took further hits for his connection to one of the world’s most insidious so called religions before he earned his way back into the collec

Scarlett Johansson Takes Control in ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’

I’m a bit ashamed to admit that I recently contributed to Hollywood’s ever‑growing portfolio of sequel box‑office numbers—I went to the theater to see the latest entry in the Jurassic franchise, Jurassic World: Rebirth. I have to concede Hollywood’s genius at commodifying nostalgia: for viewers like me who grew up on the original Jurassic films, the chance to see dinosaurs on the big screen again

This Is Not the Dinosaur Movie I Wanted

I went to see Jurassic World: Rebirth mostly because of Scarlett Johansson. As far as I’m aware (though I haven’t seen them all), the Jurassic World trilogy was all about burly macho heroes. So when I saw Johansson’s toned biceps plastered on the poster for the fourth installment, I thought, why not? Plus, it had dinosaurs—it was practically calling out to me. For whatever reason, these prehistori
mind.full.of.movies: I do agree with you, I think the Ocean's remake is an example where it could have been something that actually celebrated and used the female cast to tell a fun story, but instead just put them in a movie that wasted their talents. This is a prime example of how progress towards equality is oftentimes swept under the mat with like the bare minimum

Rebirth of a Leviathan: Radical Honesty, Sanitised Carnage, and the Future of the Jurassic Mythos

I arrived at AMC’s hush hush Screen Unseen event with no clue about the reel that would roar awake in front of me. When the title card for Jurassic World Rebirth flashed its enamelled glyphs across the screen and the auditorium erupted in applause, I felt the old Hammond park electricity crackling through the rows.It was an electricity the previous Chris Pratt trilogy tried to bottle but never qui
marvelousmars: I'm not a fan of the genre, let alone the series (the biggest shock of this article for me was reading that there was a new installment lol), but I'm not surprised by anything in your review. I think you're so right when you write that "Blockbuster cinema long ago became a simulation chamber where we pay to flirt with annihilation without bruising the skin". It's not just Jurassic Park, it's everything major studios are putting out. Nothing can be new or daring because what if someone finds it uncomfortable? God forbid. The greatest tragedy of it all is that the resulting movies are just entertaining enough to keep drawing people in, so the studios have no reason to change their tune anyway. Mediocrity and safe choices seem to be a win, at least for now.

Jurassic World Rebirth: How Universal is messing the ROAR every time?

Jurassic World Rebirth is the newest entry of the franchise and it serves like a soft-reboot and tried to erase all the events in the World Trilogy to make a new storyline where the dinosaurs co-exist with the humans in the real world and the most dangerous ones are in some island that is not Nubar. The story follows, Bennett, played by Scarlett Johansson who is recruited by a powerful bussiness m

"Hey Steve, look, I made a Jurassic World movie!"

How do you “reboot” a saga without losing its essence? Apparently, British director Gareth Edwards—an experienced hand in sci-fi—alongside David Koepp (screenwriter of the original Jurassic Park, now rebranded as Jurassic World, folded neatly into the wave of expanded universes, sequels, remakes, prequels, and all sorts of offshoots that Hollywood so dearly loves), asked themselves that very quest

‘The Phoenician Scheme’: A Perfect Frame, at Any Cost

For North American cinephiles who couldn’t make it to Cannes, it didn’t take long—just about a month after the festival ended—for the first film from the Competition lineup to hit theaters. And fittingly, it’s the kind of visual feast one can always count on from Wes Anderson. That feast, of course, stems from the director’s famously obsessive perfectionism. As expected, The Phoenician Scheme once
