“One does not go to the theater to escape from oneself, but to reestablish contact with the mystery that we all are.” Alejandro Jodorowsky is a Chilean multidisciplinary artist, writer and filmmaker, known for his contribution to surrealist and avant-garde cinema. His work is characterized by a bold fusion of complex narratives and powerful imagery, exploring themes such as tarot, psychomagic and spirituality. From a young age, he demonstrated a passion for the arts, making his acting debut at 17 and founding the pantomime troupe Teatro Mímico a year later. Jodorowsky made his film debut in 1957 with the mime short film La Cravate, and years later he made his first feature film Fando y Lis (1968). With El Topo (1970) he pioneered cult cinema and paved the way for surrealism on the big screen. His other works include The Holy Mountain (1973) and The Dance of Reality (2013). His films defy traditional genre classification and uniquely integrate with his other forms of artistic expression. Jodorowsky's originality has inspired generations of artists and filmmakers, captivated by his transgressive and visionary approach.
