Norbert Kausen worked in the film industry until 1991. At that time, he re-enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, as an infantryman in the First Battalion, the Royal Canadian Regiment. He deployed as a peace-keeper to the Former Yugoslavia in 1994 - 1995. He also functioned as the battalion photographer, video technician and graphic artist. In that capacity he deployed to the Arctic to take part in Arctic warfare training and visually documenting the training exercise. He also deployed to Turkey, as part of a joint NATO exercise, also visually documenting the Canadian army's participation. He transferred to military intelligence in 1997 and functioned as an imagery analyst and senior intelligence analyst, where he deployed to Afghanistan and the UAE in 2008. He retired as a Sergeant from the CAF in 2012. Upon retirement, Norbert enrolled in an integrated animation program at a community college and graduated the course with honors.
