Forceful, authoritative character actor of the 1920s and 1930s. Entered films in 1916. Even by then, close to 60, Kerr was very effectively cast in powerful, dynamic supporting roles, usually most often as a cultured, dignified old man. Probably most memorable as the old Baron Frankenstein in Frankenstein (1931). A brilliant performer of stage and screen, yet terribly obese and a heavy smoker. He died at 74 of lung cancer near his birthplace of London in 1933.
