Johanna Kern

Johanna Kern first began her career as a professional actress in Europe, then moved to Toronto, to pursue a career in film and television. She has since enjoyed great success working as a director, producer and writer. Kern is recognized for her unique directing style and her vision that captivates broad audiences and draws exceptional professionals to her productions. Presently, Kern has completed her feature film Shadowland, The Legend (working title: Frank, Big Baba and Forty Thieves), a fantasy/family/adventure tetralogy that is based on a play she wrote/directed for the stage in 2001. The second film in the tetralogy, Shadowland, The Warrior, is now ready for development. Over the years, Kern has made a number of dramatic short films including the critically acclaimed short Cherries for Brian (1997 Palm Springs International Film Festival, Raindance International Film Festival and Figueira da Foz International Film Festival-Portugal). Her other short films include All About Men (1996 Raindance International Film Festival and Cinewomen - Norwich International Film Festival), All About Women (1996), Toronto: Second Society (1995) and The Portrait of a Man (1994). Kern has also written seven feature film screenplays and worked as a producer/director on a number of television commercials and music videos. Additionally, she has produced, directed and written two musicals for the stage (with large casts of more than 300 actors), and founded an acting school for young performers -- Kid Stage -- based in Mississauga. She was also the founder and executive director of Fantasy Worldwide Film Festival, Toronto. Kern holds Honors Bachelor of Applied Arts/Film from Ryerson University and previously studied theatre and fine arts in Europe. Other professional work: Johanna Kern is the owner of After Rain Films, which produced "Shadowland: The Legend", and Wizdel, an online store for fantasy and science fiction lovers. She was the Director of Programming for SpaceChannel.TV and DragonWorld.TV, (owned by IPX Entertainment) and co-producing with IPX Entertainment a number of series for the channels. Other writings and book awards: In 1999-2000 Johanna Kern wrote for "Kinema: a journal for film and audiovisual media". In 2013, Johanna Kern's autobiographical book, with focus on spiritual and personal growth, titled "Master and The Green-Eyed Hope", was published by HOPE/Create Space. The book was edited by Brian Van der Horst (journalist, author, coach, therapist listed in "Who's Who in the World" since 1994, and "Who's Who in America" since 2007 and it was endorsed by internationally renowned psychologists Stanley Krippner and Jerry Solfvin. The book was first available worldwide on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords and Kobo. She is also the co-writer (with Roy Fitzsimmonds) of "Shadowland: The Legend" novel for young adults, based on her feature film and first available on Amazon, Barnes&Noble, Kobo, and others. Johanna Kern also co-wrote "Shadowland: The Legend"song with famous European composer, Romuald Lipko (Budka Suflera): Music by Romuald Lipko; Lyrics by Johanna Kern. The song was aired on over 28 radio stations across Canada, in late 2012, and published by Indie Poll worldwide on iTunes.
