“I am not a director. I am one who makes films when he has something to say.” Nanni Moretti is a prominent Italian director, actor, and screenwriter known for using sarcasm and irony in his works, which deal with youth and social criticism themes. Born in Rome, he began his career in 1973 with short films, and his first feature film, Io sono un autarchico, was released in 1976. Throughout his career, Moretti has explored politics and personal life in his films, winning awards such as the Silver Lion at Venice and the Palme d'Or at Cannes. In 1987 he founded Sacher Film, a production company dedicated to committed cinema. His filmography includes emblematic titles such as Caro diario and La habitación del hijo. In recent years, he has continued to explore social and political themes in films such as Il sol dell'avvenire, participated in film festivals, and faced his own battle with cancer.
