He began his film career in 1976 after his graduation from Brooks Institute of Photography. Since that time he has worked on more than 35 IMAX films, seven of which have been shot in space in association with NASA. He was the first recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Alumni Association of Brooks Institute in 2008. He received the awards for Best Cinematography from the Giant Screen Cinema Association for Space Station 3D (2002), and for Hubble 3D (2010). He received the Silver Snoopy Award, presented by the NASA Astronauts for outstanding contributions to mission safety and success (2001), and four NASA Group Achievement Awards for IMAX and IMAX 3D projects. In 2014 he was invited to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Cinematography Branch. In November 2015, he was invited into active membership of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). In January of 2017, he was named "Visionary Photographer" by the Imaging Alliance. In October of 2017, he was made an honorary member of the Malaysian Society of Cinematographers (MySC)
