John Nichols

A career law enforcement officer, John Nichols served as chief of police in Detroit and later Farmington Hills, Michigan. He ended his career as sheriff of Oakland County, Mich., the suburb just north of Detroit. While serving as chief, he played himself in the blaxsploitation film Detroit 9000, no doubt hoping that the film would help his 1973 campaign for mayor against Coleman Young. It didn't, and Nichols soon left Detroit.
