Paolo Noto was born in Monterosso Almo, a little mountain town in Sicily (Italy), in 1907. His parents, Salvatore and Maria, already had another son, Pietro. Since he was 10 years old, until he was almost 80 years old, he worked as a peasant, in the land inherited from his family. The Starman, by Giuseppe Tornatore, is obviously the only movie he made. Tornatore personally chose him for the role of "zu' Leonardo" (uncle Leonardo), an old Garibaldi's soldier who hates priests and religion. Ironically, in the real life, he was very pious and devoted to the Virgin Mary. When he died, in 2003, he was 95 years old.
