Simon was born in Auckland New Zealand in 1960. He is married with two daughters. He plays drums in an alt/country/funk/swamp band. He has been directing since 1987. He formed Republic Films in 1989 and has since shot over 1000 television commercials. He has made two short films, Going Down (1995) and Quid Pro Quo (1999) which screened at the Hollywood Film Festival. He completed a bachelor of Architecture in 2009. He formed content production company Kontent in 2010. He has made three documentaries - The Secret Life of John Rowles (New Zealand's Tom Jones). The Sun Came Out - Neil Finn inviting members of Radiohead, Wilco, Johnny Marr, KT Tunstall and others to New Zealand to record and album and put on shows for the charity Oxfam. This was also released as a feature length film on DVD. And A Bit Mental - following Jimi Hunt as he traveled a 400km river on a blow up mattress to raise awareness for mental health and to aid Jimi's recovery from depression. He has just finished post on The Catch - his first self funded, self produced, comedy/drama film.
