Jim McElroy, began his working life in Melbourne, Australia in television and theater. In 1971 Jim joined forces with his twin brother Hal to set up McElroy and McElroy. Their producing debut in 1973 was Peter Weir's first film The Cars That Ate Paris (1974), which became the first Australian film to gain international recognition at the Cannes Film Festival. Their next two feautures, Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975), and The Last Wave were also directed by Peter Weir. Jime then produced Peter Weir's first American picture The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) for MGM. The picture won an Academy Award for best upporting Actress. Jim's credits also include a range of feature films, television programs and telemovies, including Melvin, Son Of Melvin, Remember Me, Late Night With Jon And Dano, Sharks Paradise and Til There Was You. In march 1992 the partnership was dissolved with Hal concentrating on television and Jim in film. He has since produced Traps, Mr Reliable and the romantic comedy Dear Claudia.
