Bina McLoughlin was a sheep farmer and lived just outside the village of Leenane, in the Connemara region of County Galway, Ireland. She was locally known as the "Queen of Connemara". A popular character in the village, she is well remembered in Ireland for her spirited phone ins in farming matters to local radio stations. She lived a very simple life with her animals, and when shooting for Jim Sheridan's film The Field (1990) began in Leenane, she was cast in a small role as a villager. Bina McLoughlin died in February 2001.
