For the first fourteen years of his career, Milburn worked as an actor on stage and screen, and was regularly seen as 'Dave Inchcape' in TV's Rumpole of the Bailey. In January 1995, he moved to producing and set up Midsummer Films. Since then, he has produced over twenty-five feature films, working internationally across the UK, Eastern Europe, the United States and Asia. Chris specialises in acquiring financing for projects, particularly through tax incentives, and has built up a strong reputation for his expertise in this area. "An American Haunting" was Chris's first production in Romania which he produced alongside Andrei Boncea in 2004. The film starred Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek and had success in both the US and international markets. Other notable projects produced by Chris include "Relative Values", starring Julie Andrews and Colin Firth and "Dreaming of Joseph Lees", produced for Fox Searchlight, both of which were directed by Eric Styles. In 2016, Chris formed Illustrious Media with his business partner, Gareth West, a company that specialises in film finance and production. In the years that have followed, the team at Illustrious have produced "The Hunter's Prayer" starring Sam Worthington, "Hurricane Heist" an action/disaster film starring Toby Kebbell and Maggie Grace, and many others. Chris' next production is the action-thriller, "The Protégé", directed by Martin Campbell, and starring Maggie Q, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton.
