Léopold Sédar Senghor was born on October 9, 1906 in Joal-la-Portugaise, French West Africa [now Senegal]. He was a writer, known for Batouk (1967), Auf der Lesebühne der Literarischen Illustrierten (1965) and Son ou gal (1965). He was married to Ginette Éboué and Colette Hubert. He died on December 20, 2001 in Verson, Normandy, France.
