Entered UK film industry following army service during World War Two. 1946-7: assistant casting director, Shepperton Studios. Subsequently stunt double and stand-in for actors including Tyrone Power, David Niven, Sydney Chaplin, Errol Flynn and especially Stewart Granger, with whom he had a seven-year contract. Received ACTT card as assistant director, 1957. Directed behind-the-scenes coverage for television of Disney live-action films, including Third Man on the Mountain (1959) and Swiss Family Robinson (1960). Co-director of Oakhurst Film Productions with Stanley Baker and Michael Deeley. Associate producer with Embassy (subsequently Avco Embassy) in US. Later formed Robert Porter Film Productions (UK).
