Born in North Vietnam during the war years, Ho Quang Minh went to Switzerland to study in 1962. He graduated from the Swiss Federal Polytechnic Institute and worked for a while as a computer engineer. In 1979, he went to Paris to study at film school, and decided to embark on a career as film maker. His first project was a documentary about life in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) for Vietnamese television. His third film Gone, Gone, Forever Gone was the Vietnamese entry for the 1996 Academy Awards. He currently holds Swiss nationality, and continues to be based there.
