Lara Rae was born in Glasgow, Scotland, as Alan Rae. She is a Canadian comedian and the artistic director of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. She is a longtime contributor to CBC, including many appearances on The Debaters. A television and radio writer, she has been nominated 3 times for a Canadian Comedy award and once nominated for a Gemini Award for her work on Little Mosque on the Prairie. Originally a part of the comedy duo Al and George, which broke up in 1993, she moved from Toronto to Winnipeg, she founded the Winnipeg Comedy Festival in 2002. Her play How Do You Know When You're Done premiered at the Tim Sims Playhouse in 1999 fictionalized her breakup with comedy partner George Westerholm. In 2013, she came out of the closet. She still presented as male at the time. In 2015, she came out as a transgender woman. She continues to write and perform comedy in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
