Born Penrose Reagan in New Jersey in 1924, Ray Reagan had to interrupt his engineering studies to join the U.S. Army during World War II. Several times decorated, he was briefly detained in Switzerland following a forced landing while flying back from an air raid over Germany. It is during this period of detention that Leopold Lindtberg spotted him and hired him for his classic war film The Last Chance (1945), where Reagan performed the part of an American sergeant. But he was only an actor by chance and did not try to pursue an acting career. He rejoined his unity in the Pacific as of the end of filming and never appeared before a camera again.
