Matilde Revenga was a soprano born in Valencia on Nov. 4th. 1904. She started singing in family and social meetings, and was encouraged to follow an operatic career. At 16 she moved to Madrid where she took voice lessons with Ignacio Tabuyo, and finally debuted at 18 at the Teatro Real with Lohengrin. When the Real closed she moved to the Apolo. She also toured Italy (Milán, Venice, Genova, Mantova). She sang among others Pagliacci, Faust, Tosca, La Bohème and Carmen which was her debut at Barcelona's Liceu operatic theatre. As a Spanish soprano she specialized in zarzuelas, (Jardín de Oriente, Maruxa, Marina), often paired with Miguel Fleta (also with Anibal Vela or Emili Sagi Barba, father of Lluís Sagi Vela). They made together her only film, Miguelón, o el último contrabandista (1933). After the Spanih Civil War she did not resume her career. She died in Madrid at 81 years of age.
