Born in Sweden and educated in England at Winchester College, Ian Thompson pursued a degree in International Relations at the University of Toronto and earned an MFA in Film at York University. He has written, directed and produced a number of dramatic short films including an adaptation of Chekhov's The Boor which aired on Global TV and YLE 2 Finnish Broadcasting Corporation and was nominated for two Golden Sheaf Awards including best film at the Yorkton Film Festival. His most recent work Three Lives of Kate has been screened at over 35 film festivals around the world including Valladolid in Spain and Sprocket Toronto International Film Festival for Children as well garnering a number of awards. Currently Three Lives of Kate is airing on CBC and HBO. In addition to his dramatic works he has directed and produced a number of documentaries and permanent installations works for the Royal Ontario Museum, including Louis Hawley Stone and Timeless Korea. He is an instructor in Media Arts at Sheridan College, and has just finished directing a one-hour multi-lingual documentary Fundamental Freedoms for OMNI television.
