Alejandro van Rooy

Growing up surrounded by art and fashion I can't remember a time, even as a child, when I wasn't fascinated with drawing people wearing clothes and with history. Both things seemed to inevitably lead to my passion for costume design. The costume is one of the first visual clues about a character, and so much can be said immediately and without words about where they come from, the time and place they live in, their standing in life, their successes and failures, their aspirations, their temperament and psyche. I'm based in Madrid, and during my more than thirty years of career in Spain I have worked with the most important film directors, as well as in major publicity campaigns and other related projects in theater and fashion. I feel very fortunate with all the amazing people I've met and with what my extended experience has taught me. To work as a team, a deep knowledge of the necessary technical skills, and to solve problems with a good face. Being fluent in English, Spanish and French has also enabled me to work in national and international productions and to further expand my professional horizons.
