Published Writer, Biographer, Announcer, Speaker, Lecturer, Motion Picture Authority, and Film Music Historian, Steve Vertlieb has been writing about films, and the history of "Music For The Movies," in books, magazines, journals, and on-line for over half a century. He has appeared as a featured guest on television shows, radio programs, internet podcasts, at universities, as well as museums, and on film convention panels since 1968. He is the recipient of the coveted "Rondo Hall of Fame" Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by David Colton (former Editor and Chief of "USA Today") at "The Classic Horror Film Board," joining previous recipients Ray Bradbury, Ray Harryhausen, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Robert Bloch. He is the author of the lead chapter for Avon Books' best selling cultural anthology on "King Kong," "The Girl In The Hairy Paw." He wrote the opening biographical chapter and study for the Australian tome "Robert Bloch: The Man Who Collected Psychos," and was a featured writer in "Dracula: The First Hundred Years." His work has appeared both nationally and internationally in "Scary Monsters Magazine," and "The Monster Times," as well as in "Cinemacabre," "L'Incroyable Cinema," "Mad About Movies," and "The Late Show." His work has been a featured staple of the "Hugo Award" winning Sci-Fi/Fantasy web magazine, "File 770." He has been interviewed at length by "The B-Movie Cast" (popular podcast) concerning his work and writings, and is currently the subject of a major published interview by Mark Mawston ("Rock and Roll" photographer and celebrated author) for British horror film magazine "We Belong Dead," featuring a twelve page, full color layout concerning his life and lengthy artistic career. Vertlieb has appeared as a guest on such television and radio shows as "Newsprobe" (WTAF-TV with Jill Chernikoff), "People Are Talking (KYW TV), "Counter Culture" with host Grover Silcox (PBS), "Classic Movies with Ron MacCloskey" (PBS), and "Fresh Air" with host Terry Gross (NPR). He was most recently interviewed at length for the forthcoming feature length documentary "Scored To Death," concerning the history of original music composed for Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy films.
