“The Matrix is a metaphor for self-discovery. It's a film about awakening to the reality of who you are and finding the courage to live that truth.” Lana Wachowski is a prominent director, screenwriter and producer. Originally named Laurence Wachowski, she is best known for co-creating The Matrix with her sister Lilly. Lana attended Whitney Young High School and studied at Bard College, but did not complete her degree. Along with Lilly, she worked in the painting and construction business, and they wrote for Marvel Epic Comics before entering film. They made their directorial debut with Bound (1996) and achieved great success with The Matrix (1999), which earned them the Saturn Award for Best Director. They subsequently directed The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (2003). They also wrote and produced V for Vendetta (2005) and Speed Racer (2008). In 2013, they co-directed Cloud Atlas with Tom Tykwer and in 2015, they released Jupiter Ascending. For Netflix, they created Sense8 (2015) along with J. Michael Straczynski. After Lilly's departure from the project, Lana continued with the second season of Sense8 and wrote and directed The Matrix Resurrections (2021), the fourth installment of The Matrix series.
