Oscar Nominee Garry Waller is an American Cinematographer with an impressive body of work in Hollywood for nearly twenty-five years. He grew up in Palmdale, California frequenting the local 2 screens Drive-In. His mother and father - Wilma worked civil service for the Army base, James at Edwards Air Force Base Department of Flight Research (DFRC) researching heat and stress analysis on the 'Flying Bathtub' commonly known today as the 'Space Shuttle'. As soon as he turned 16 and received the family hand-me-down Oldsmobile he made many 'secret' (he thought) treks down Hwy 14 to reach Westwood Los Angeles, and view many movies on better screens. He attended Hamilton School of Photography in Santa Monica but later challenged and gained entry into 2nd year course curriculum at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Two months there brought a career breakthrough to work at LucasFilm in Marin County, California. His debut film there working on VFX was 'Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back' creating 100's of motion blur 'flak' bursts. After four years at LucasFilm he moved on to Boss Films in Marina Del Rey to continue working on several more movies. He collected an Oscar nomination for his work on the film 'Poltergeist II: The Other Side' while there. Garry has won both an Emmy Award and an MTV Music Video award, 'Best Cinematography in a Music Video' by the Rolling Stones, (for the song 'Love is Strong'). He has worked and collaborated with Directors - David Fincher, Olivier Megaton, Joseph Kosinski, Antoine Fuqua, Dustin Nguyen, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton, to name only a few. He has filmed all over the world on theatrical releases, most recently in Poland for the movie 'Persona Non Grata' and in Vietnam filming the movie 'I'll Wait'.
