Born as a second sun to Lia Shimanovsky and Avrasha Savernsky. Nick named 'Dudik' to distinguish him from his grandfather David. Moved to Tel Aviv as a baby and returned to Haifa when he was 5, and studied in the Reali school of Haifa, and joined his brother in 'Mikve Israel' agricultural high school. He was very good with painting and acting, and performed in the drama class. As part of the "youth worker" movement he joined a core settlement, and went through the training of "Geva". Classes ceased at spring 1948, and Smadar joined the Palmach and fought in the War of Independence. After his discharge he joined Kibbutz 'Avuka' in Beit She'an Valley. The kibbutz sent him to a directors course, and upon return he tried to set up a drama group. Following the breakup of the kibbutz in 1952 , Smadar moved to Tel Aviv and began working as an actor in the Cameri theater. Four years later, in 1958, he became an independent actor and played a variety of roles in theaters 'Ohel', 'Eshnav', 'Zira' and musicals in the 'Giora Godik' theater. He also appeared in Israeli and international productions ('Yehudit', 'Exodus') in the 60s and early 70s cinema. Most known for his role as a tour guide in the 1975 educational TV series 'Ivrit BeSiman Tov', in which he explores the landscapes of Israel, while often engaged with detective mysteries.
