Gary Stella was born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Growing up, he was inspired by former Kenoshans who'd impacted the film and TV industry, like Orson Welles, Don Ameche, Concetta Tomei, Daniel J. Travanti, Burt I. Gordon, etc. He started making Super8 films when he was in grade school, and continued making short films and videos throughout high school. He studied film & video history, theory, and production at UW-Madison and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He's worked primarily in episodic TV production, as director and 1st Assistant Director. He became a member of the Directors' Guild of America in 1993, and of Actors Equity Association in 2003.
