Paul Tanner played trombone with Glenn Miller's civilian orchestra. He also played trombone with Charlie Spivak, Les Brown, Tex Beneke, Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Frank Comstock, Billy May, and many others. He was first trombone for the American Broadcast Company (ABC) in Los Angeles for 16 years. He was an arranger and composer and also performed with Eugene Ormandy, Arturo Toscanini, Bruno Walter, Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Walter Hendi, Andre Previn, etc. He composed many published works for trombone at varying levels from complicated double concertos to easy solos for young players. He authored many books on trombone methodology and the most used textbook on the history of jazz, "JAZZ," now in its 8th edition. He developed an alternative version of the theremin called the "Electro-Theremin." Paul recorded the Electro-Theremin on many projects, including the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations." Paul graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) magna cum laude and was awarded master and doctorate degrees. He taught at UCLA for 23 years and was awarded the title, "Distinguished Professor". He is now lecturing internationally on the history of jazz and working on a book of memoirs.
