The first music video Fernando Bandera directed, "Obsession" by Miguel Mateos, became an instant classic in Latin Music and was nominated for best video on the year by Billboard/Lo Nuestro and MTV. Most recently he directed the short film "Overkill" which is presently on the festival circuit. He also produced a series of music videos for Esperanza Spalding's latest CD "Radio Music Society", nominated for a Grammy award in 2013. He directed several television specials including "Concierto Por La Vida", the first ever AIDS benefit for the Hispanic Community, also the documentary "Vermouth & Noche" about the Chilean rock band Los Tres for Sony Music. He also directed a series of commercials with Cindy Crawford for a South America department store chain. He also executive produced the acclaimed film "Johnny 100 Pesos". As a producer, he has worked with MTV and Cameron Diaz on the series "Trippin'" and for E! Entertainment's "Wild On" and "F.Y.I.". In addition he produced two award winning short films with Chilean directors: "Amigos" and "Ciro Norte" which starred Nastassja Kinski and Axel Jodorowski and became part of the permanent collection at the MoMA New York. Fernando Bandera was born in Chile, grew up in New York and studied in Los Angeles California. His passion for filmmaking started at the age of 15, making short films using his father's 8 mm camera, but he did not pursue this professionally until he was 29 when he and his brother Peter established Bandera Brothers Entertainment. Before that time he took full advantage of the fact that his father worked for Pan Am Airlines, entitling him to flight benefits. Fernando traveled extensively throughout the world, exploring the Himalayas, studying classical Indian music in the shadow of the Taj Mahal, photographing primitive tribes in the jungles of Thailand by the age of 22, and studying pre-Columbian cultures throughout Latin America. As an adventure guide he crisscrossed North America 18 times overland by the time he was 26, he also worked as a ski instructor and guide in Vermont and Chile, all the while working as a freelance photographer.
