The daughter of a retired Captain in the Royal Scots Greys, Olive de Wilton grew up in western Canada; and after an early, unsuccessful marriage, she went on the stage, traveling to many venues in the northeastern United States and Canada. She was the common-law wife of "Boris Karloff" (q.v.) before returning to England in 1919, where she worked in a number of acting companies as actress, playwright, and business manager before returning to Canada. She settled in Montreal in 1952, where she acted on the stage and in film and in radio plays as well as writing for the National Film Board of Canada before retiring to western Canada.
