Garrett English Executive Vice President of Live Event Programming, Specials & News MTV VH1 & LOGO Garrett English is an accomplished, versatile and widely-respected media executive whose expertise spans the creative, operational and production areas of the industry. In his current role, Mr. English is charged with developing and bringing original series, documentaries and world class events to life across the brand's linear, multi-platform and social media screens. His portfolio includes the creative development and production of the Network's music series and specials, as well as overseeing, integrated branded content, talent, budgeting and network broadcast and business operations. Most recently Mr. English developed "Wonderland," MTV's ambitious and well-received live weekly-performance series - the first in 20-years for the network - that broke the barrier between the linear television screen and social media. In addition, he spearheaded the launch of "MTV Docs," a new unit dedicated to filmmaking that captures the artists and audiences that inspire MTV. MTV Docs' first project, "Prescription for Change: Ending America's Opioid Crisis," premiered in October and featured a frank conversation between Grammy-Award winning artist Macklemore and President Barack Obama. Beginning in 2004, Mr. English served as the lead development and production executive for all of MTV's tent pole programs, initiatives and special events, as well as Executive Producer of the "MTV Movie Awards," "MTV Video Music Awards," "mtvU Woodie Awards," "Fandom Awards," "MTV Unplugged" and other live broadcast events. He has produced landmark MTV events such as the 2016 election special "Total Registration Live," 2010's "A Conversation with President Obama" and the "Hope for Haiti Telethon" which aired across all major U.S. television networks as well as globally, and the 2008's "Be the Change: Live From the Inaugural Ball" special. Mr. English joined MTV's News and Documentaries division in 1995 before being promoted to MTV's Music/Specials/Events unit producing tent pole event programming. In 2001, he moved across the pond to the U.K. to join the MTV Networks International team where he quickly rose to the Head of Production and Operations for MTV Networks International & MTV Networks Europe. During his international tenure, Mr. English spearheaded countless global MTV music and pro-social events, including "Staying Alive: a Global Forum on HIV/AIDS with Bill Clinton" and the notable documentary "Staying Alive: Meeting Mandela." Mr. English is the co-founder and board member of the Staying Alive Foundation, a global grant-making organization dedicated to encouraging, energizing and empowering young people who are involved in HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention around the world. Prior to his time at MTV, Mr. English worked as a municipal bond broker on Wall Street. He graduated from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelors of Arts in History and lives in the New York City area with his wife and two daughters.
