In the late 90s, Mattei worked for tech startups in New York, creating original content for the likes of Audible and Razorfish; he created the Razorfish Subnetwork, which is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. He was also the writer of MTV's first video game, Club Dead. As a novelist, Mattei's The Deep Whatsis was called a "red hot debut" by Publishers Weekly and published in six languages and nine countries in 2014. ("Brilliant satire of consumerism, popular culture, hipsters, Brooklyn, music and the advertising world: there hasn't been anything that so sharply captures and skewers the current zeitgeist since American Psycho and Fight Club." -Goodreads) As a commercial director, Mattei has worked for clients such as Sony Music, Puma, and Playstation; his short docs on rappers Ca$hOut and Dyme-A-Duzin won Clio Awards in 2015. His photographs and art videos have been seen at Fotofest in Houston, in a solo show at the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, New York, and at the Parlour Gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Recently, Mattei developed television series for Fox/20th via Lee Daniels Entertainment, for Topic Studios (Leave No Trace, Spotlight), is EP on a series in development for NBC, and he is set to direct an original indie sci fi feature I, REDEEMER, in 2021.
