Roller derby queen Janet Earp initially had no intentions of becoming a skater when she went to the training center in Alameda, California on a dare. Earp subsequently decided to go on the road as a skater after roller derby champion Larry Smith asked her if she was interested in doing so. Janet started out as a member of the San Francisco Bay Bombers in the mid-1960's and was named Rookie of the Year in 1966. Earp was eventually traded to the Midwest Pioneers in 1968 and later also skated for such teams as the Northwest Braves, the Red Devils, and the Eagles. Janet settled in the Northwest after retiring from the roller derby scene.
