David Wingate grew up in Cardiff, Wales, but moved to Norway in his early twenties. Throughout the 70s he made short films, mostly for Norwegian Television. In 1980 he wrote and directed a Norwegian feature film called "Svart Hav". In the early 80s he continued to write feature film scripts with Norwegian and Swedish fund support and worked as FAD on Norwegian features. In the mid 80s he gave up film making to sit for four years on one of the Norwegian State film Funds as representative for the Film Union. He has lived since the late 80s in Sweden and worked as dramaturg, script advisor and teacher in Norway and Sweden. He works with long form TV journalism, documentary and short and long fiction. From 1996 to 2001 he worked part time for Film i Väst, the west Swedish regional film development, working with young film makers and shorts. From 2002 he has worked as an advisor for the regional film fund Poem in Oulu in Finland, where he helps develop digital fiction, documentaries and films for mobile devices. He continues to work as dramaturg for film and television. Among his Swedish dramaturg credits are "Om jag vänder mig om", the Swedish cinema documentary "Lucky People Centre International", and two 8 part observational documentary series, "Skjuhuset" and "Skolan" and the single Heroin and the historical series "Arn's Rike" for Swedish TV4. In 2005 the Ausatrian cinema feature documentary "The Souvenirs of tr. X" had its premier. David was dramaturg on this film from early script stages through the editing. David was a guest-teacher for the writer-directors at the Swedish national film school in Stockholm through the 80s and early 90s. For the last 3 years he has worked with directing, writing and producing students at the Dutch national film school in Amsterdam. From 2001 he has a part time post as at teacher on a film producers course at the regional university in west Sweden. David has been a board member of EU Media SOURCES 2 and a SOURCES 2 script advisor for the last 6 years. He works with fiction and documentary for Sources.
