Jean Winstanley was born in 1913 in Lancashire, England as Jean Beattie Winstanley. She studied Sculpture at Manchester Regional College of Art and Design and was a member of the art college theatre group. She studied Acting at RADA, graduating in 1934. She spent time with the Manchester Repertory Theatre.
