Roxann Blackman's family originated from Trinidad and Tobago. She's a 1st generation when her parents landed in the US in the 60s. Roxann was first interested in modeling, but after seeing her father in the very first episode of Miami Vice, her fate to be an actor was sealed. While attending college at Florida International University in South Miami, she auditioned and was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. Nine months after Roxann moved to New York she won the starring role of "Pepsi" in an independent film "Heaven." After the filming of "Heaven" she performed in several plays, one of them being "Ruthy," which was performed at the Newark Symphony Hall (NJ). Portraying the character of "Ruthy" pushed Roxann to being a better artist and left a lasting impression on her. Additionally, Roxann and her husband Doyle Ray Taylor formed DRT Entertainment. In fact, their film "Secret Admirer" was The Audience Award Winner @ the 2005 African American Women in Cinema (NYC).
