Vanja Dimitrova is a Film Maker and Visual Artist from Macedonia. Completed her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie for Art at the Audio Visual Department and gained a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the Sandberg Instituut, both academies located in Amsterdam, where she now works and lives. In 2020, she made the film Alone Together, which is one of the few films in the world, made during the first wave of Corona pandemic. Winner of Best Experimental Long Short Film at Alternative Film Festival, Toronto,; Best Experimental Film at Hong Kong Indie Film Festival ; Paris Women Festival; Monza Film Fest; Best Original Idea at Reale Film Festival; Honorable Mention at International Cosmopolitan Film Festival of Tokyo; Official Selection at Paris International Short Festival; Berlin Shorts Award; Rotterdam Independent Film Festival; New York International Women Festival; New York Movie Awards; Hamburg Film Awards. Her documentary Locked Storms, filmed in the Woman's Correctional Prison and a Psychiatric hospital in Macedonia, premiered at the Manaki Brothers International Cinematographers Film Festival, North Macedonia and in Regional Competiotion at ZagrebDox Film Festival, Croatia, Eastern Neighbors Film Festival, The Netherlands.. Her short film Absence, which was inspired by a true story of a war photographer, during the Bosnian War and the breakup of Yugoslavia, was shot on 35mm, with Thom Hoffman in the main role. Was shown on numerous International Film Festivals. Selected for the Berlin Film Festival, Berlin Talent Campus, with the animation Birdy. Vanja Dimitrova also worked on other film productions, as Casting Director, Assistant Director, Set Decorator and Mood Book Designer. Her body of work consists of photography, installations, video art, with which she has participated on numerous exhibitions and festivals.
