John Schuermann has been active in the Colorado filmmaking community for over 30 years, having written and directed several short films and composed the music and created the sound design for over half a dozen feature films and shorts. He is also an accomplished screenwriter, with three produced scripts and strong showings in national screenwriting contests. John is currently most known for his feature film scores, which are known for having a "big budget" orchestral sound that is usually not heard in independent films. John Schuermann was born in Syosset, NY in 1963 and started making Super-8 films from the age of 14 years old onward (interestingly, "Hick Trek" was shot on the very same Super-8 camera). Music was also very important in John's life - his mother was an accomplished pianist and his brother Paul has a very successful band on Long Island called "East Coast." In 1977, at age 13, John moved with his family to Montrose, a small town in Colorado. The culture shock of moving from Long Island to Montrose is part of what resulted in "Hick Trek," which was actually created as a project for a group of Star Trek fans John and his brother Pete had met in Colorado Springs. Since then, John has created the music scores and sound design for over half a dozen feature films, shorts, and promo films. As of May 2012, he is in pre-production on "The Last Vampire," a feature film to be written and directed by John to be shot in Colorado Springs and Denver.
