Born in Paris, Gregory Monro grew up with the American culture, watching films from Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Frank Capra and Sergio Leone. But it was French comedian Louis de Funès who is responsible for Monro's passion. As a consequence he started acting at age 9 before making his first films at 13. After graduating from French Film School ESRA, in 1997, he attended Jack Waltzer's (a lifetime Actors Studio member) masterclass for a few years in Paris and New York. From 1999, Gregory Monro has written, produced, directed and performed in several short films, most of which toured international film festivals. Monro has also a passion for the American West history and its legends, and is mainly focused on the feminine condition. He is the author of numerous works on Calamity Jane's character. He published a few books, designed a special exhibit, directed a docudrama for European broadcaster Arte, and owns her controversial diary and letters. In recent years, Gregory Monro directed several documentaries, " Louis de Funès Forever ", Calamity Jane : Wild West Legend ", " James Stewart/Robert Mitchum, the two faces of America ", " Jerry Lewis : The man behind the clown ", selected at the Telluride Film Festival, " Michel Legrand : Let the music play ", which has been nominated at the International Emmy Awards, " Kubrick by Kubrick ", based upon rare interviews Stanley Kubrick granted to French film critic Michel Ciment.
