Terry Blamey is best known for having successfully managed the world-wide career of Kylie Minogue for over 25 years. He was with her at her first show in front of 38,000 people at the Tokyo Dome in 1989 and he was present at her most recent show for Prince Charles last month in St James Palace, and every show in between. He has produced all her tours and all her filmed shows. Terry first became a music manager in 1966 whilst still at school in his home town of Melbourne, Australia. Shortly after gaining his bachelor degree in business from Melbourne University in the early '70's, he met the Australian music mogul, Michael Gudinski. They have remained close colleagues to this day. By 1973 Terry was running Michael's agency, Premier Artists, the country's largest booker of bands. Their roster consisted of the cream of Australia talent at that time/ the pioneers of Australian rock music (including AC/DC). But by 1974 Terry had his own successful agency/management company. In 1984 he founded the industry/professional body, the Victorian Entertainment Agents' Association in Australia and was elected their president four years running. Terry met Kylie in 1987, in time for the release of her first record, a remake of the 1962 Little Eva hit "Locomotion". The song went No.1 in Australia and hit the top 5 throughout the world the following year! Her debut album, entitled just "Kylie" went on to sell 7 x platinum in the UK. Since then Kylie has released eleven more studio albums (all Platinum), and multiple live recordings, compilations, videos, TV and DVD packages, etc. This is of course in addition to over fifty singles released throughout the world, all of which have been hits, including the classics: I Should Be So Lucky, Can't Get You Out Of My Head, Spinning Around, Better The Devil You Know, Slow, etc. etc. Kylie has received countless gold and platinum discs and sold-out eight record breaking world tours and in 2000 closed the Sydney Olympics. Her awards are far too numerous to list, suffice it to say she has received 3 BRITS (in addition to her 10 other Brit nominations, not bad for an Australian!), a Grammy and five nominations, several MTV, Ivor Novello, ARIA, World Music Awards, etc. plus Britain's prestigious annual Music Industry Trust Award, the only woman in the event's 20 year history to receive the honour. He was also responsible for launching the career of Kylie's sister Dannii. In the first 10 years of her music career together they achieved 10 consecutive UK hits. Terry has three children and two grand-daughters. Has been an important part of the UK music scene since his move to London in 1991. He received Manager Of The Year Award from the MMF in 2002 and the best manager award from the ILMC in 2003. as well as Britain's prestigious Peter Grant Award for Outstanding Achievement in (Music) Management in 2012. Grateful for the opportunity to give back to the industry that has looked after him so well for over fifty years, Terry now spends his time giving talks to students of artist management as well as helping out and consulting to artists, managers and other music business professionals. He is currently working with Australian legend, Richard Clapton in Australia, and a broad variety other artists overseas. In January 2023 the Australian Governor-General recognised Terry in the Australia Day Honours List to receive the award as Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his "significant service to management in the music industry"! When not on the road Terry and his long-time partner Lynn Curtis divide their time between their homes in London, Melbourne and the mountains of Quebec. By: Lynn Curtis
