Darko Lungulov, originally from Serbia, moved to New York City where he graduated with BFA in film and video from CCNY. In 2004 Darko's documentary Escape won the Audience Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival. His debut feature Here and There won Tribeca 2009 Best NY Narrative Award. The film received critical acclaim from The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, The New York Times, subsequently winning 20 awards at more than 50 international festivals. It was theatrically released in the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, and Grece. FIPRESCI Serbia voted Darko for Best Director in 2009. The film was initially voted as Serbian foreign-language Oscar candidate but subsequently disqualified due to "too much English dialogue for the foreign-language category". The film was one of the early Netflix streamed films, from 2010 - 2012. Also screened at Showtime USA for two years 2010 -2012. Currently, it is streaming on Amazon Prime. Darko Lungulov was a member of the Tribeca 2010 Festival jury. His next film, a dark comedy, Monument to Michael Jackson (2014) had its World Premiere at Karlovy Vary IFF where it received critical acclaim from Variety. At its USA premiere at Santa Barbara IFF 2015, it has won The Best Eastern European Award. The film also won Grand Prix and The Best Actor Award at Nashville Film Festival and Grand Prix- The Best Film Award at the Montenegro International Film Festival 2014. The film was picked up by HBO Eastern Europe. Darko co-wrote and was a directing consultant on Good Wife, renowned Serbian actress Mirjana Karanovic's directorial debut. The film had its World premiere at Sundance 2016. Darko directed 2 seasons of the TV series Sumnjiva Lica ( The Suspects) for Serbian national television in 2016 and 2017. For the last five years, Darko Lungulov is in the production of a music documentary that follows the 50-year long carrier of the legendary Yugoslav / Serbian rock band YU Grupa ( The YU Band).
