Born in Yorkshire, England, 1961. Trained as an actor at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London, in the 1980s. Worked mainly in theatre for twenty years in the West End and touring the UK. Relocated to Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2000, and worked in films with Ken Loach, Dexter Fletcher, Kate Dickie and Martin Compston, among many others. Nick also worked in representation with Hunwick Hughes Ltd (until 2017) and was creative director for Kickabout Films (2010). Highly regarded as a theatre coach for the Scottish Drama Training Network (2016) and as a director, lyricist and writer in musical theatre and for the stage. In 2020 Nick became Creative Director and partner in Lock In Films. Nick has three children - Lauren K Nixon (author), Natasha Hughes (theatre costume supervisor) and Ben Hughes (singer/songwriter and actor).
