Biography

Greek-born Alexis Mardas was a charismatic self-proclaimed inventor and electronics wizard. During 1967 and 1968, The Beatles fell under his spell and plouged valuable Apple cash into financing his wild and often mythical inventions - which more often than not turned out to be hopeless failures or just boxes of flashing coloured lights. At the height of his influence, he offered to take them out of the drab over-familiar surroundings of Abbey Road and build them a custom-made recording studio in the Apple offices. The studio did appear but was of such poor quality that The Beatles were forced to return to Abbey Road. Their association with Alex was terminated shortly afterwards.
