An award-winning film and theater writer-director, Sara Hallowell wrote and directed her first short film "Pharaoh's Heart" starring Paul Guilfoyle. The screenplay was awarded a Panavision 35mm film grant and the film won several Best Short Film or audience awards at festivals across the US. Her second short "Retta's Revenge" starring Retta was also an official selection at festivals across the country. Hallowell went on to win awards for three shorts she directed for Filmaka, a global film competition juried by legendary filmmakers Paul Schrader, Werner Herzog, Wim Wenders and Neil Labute. One, "Salesgirl", also won the Canon Film Award at L.A.'s Dances with Films Festival. Theatrically, Pratter-Hallowell directed: "Dog" (Workhouse, NYC) starring Scott William Winters, Moliere's "Les Ridiculous Precieuses" (Kaufman Theater, NYC), "The Chekhov Project - an Ode to the Group Theater" (Globe Playhouse, LA) starring Enrico Colantoni. As a screenwriter, her short screenplay "Hello I Must Be Going" has is a finalist or has won numerous 2020 screenplay competitions. Her feature screenplay "Blood Moon" is also a finalist or won numerous 2020 screenplay competitions. Originally a play, "Blood Moon" was staged at Naked Angels and The Blank Theater in L.A., was directed by Arye Gross and starred Barbara Bain. In addition, Hallowell has written/directed promotional DVD's for NewLine Cinema, Pretty Pretty Cosmetics, music videos for IKTV-Tao Music, was consulting director on spots for Best Buy, MTV and Sheryl Crow, as well as written and directed for acclaimed photographer Matthew Rolston. She is a member of SAG, AEA, AWD (Alliance of Women Directors) and Film Independent.
