Born in Cambridge, Minnesota. Matvick received his bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University in 1996. He served as an assistant sports director St. Cloud's WJON radio, serving as play-by-play voice for Huskies basketball and hockey and was the hockey play-by-play voice for hockey at UTVS-TV as well as anchor. After graduating he joined WQPM in Princeton, Minnesota as a play-by-play broadcaster and sports anchor. He became the Asst. Sports director and sports anchor at KMTV in 1998. Prior to that he was the assistant sports director for KDLT in Sioux Falls. He was hired at CNNSI in 1999 and joined Fox Sports Net North in Minnesota in 2001. At Fox Sports Net North he served as Pregame Show Host & Rinkside/Sideline Reporter.
